Mazda’s versatile CX-9 could be heading for a redesign in the coming years, but until then, parents may want to check out the 2014 model. The automaker’s crossover SUV will provide a spacious interior for seven passengers, and for the driver, a strong V6 engine and responsive steering that keeps the 2014 Mazda CX-9 fun for the adults, and roomy enough for the kids.
The 2014 CX-9 is Mazda’s largest model in the lineup, with 3-rows to provide ample room for adults and children. The sporty exterior also hints at the Zoom-Zoom factor that is present under the hood.
The SUV is equipped with a 3.7-litre V6 engine that generates a whopping 273 horsepower, and 270 pound-feet of torque. The vehicle offers strong acceleration regardless of whether you are driving it in the city, or on the highway (and attempting to pass another vehicle).
The engine is mated to a quick-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode. The vehicle also comes standard with front-wheel drive (GS trim), and Mazda’s “Active Torque-Split” all-wheel drive system is included on the GT model.
Consumers can expect the 2014 CX-9 to have rollover and dynamic stability control, in addition to traction control. In terms of safety, buyers that opt for the GT trim will benefit from the Blind Spot Monitoring System with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, among other features. The SUV has received top Good scores for the moderate overlap front and side impact crash tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Inside the vehicle, interior volume hovers around 4,434 litres, which is enough to fit a total of seven passengers inside the SUV, and for each person to feel comfortable with the space that surrounds them. If the driver wishes to increase cargo space, he or she can simple fold the third-row seat with a 50/50 split. The second-row will fold with a 60/40 split, and with both rows down; there should be plenty of room for quite a few items.
Once everyone is in the vehicle, they can begin to enjoy the standard features of the 2014 Mazda CX-9, like heated front seats, front and rear air conditioning, remote keyless entry, MP3 functionality, and Bluetooth with hands-free calling and an SMS texting function. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls and a rearview camera are also standard.
To enjoy satellite radio, a surround sound system, along with driver’s seat memory position, rear back-up sensors and voice-activated navigation, consumers can opt for the GT model. A power glass moonroof is offered on the base trim with the Luxury Package, or comes standard on the GT.
The 2014 Mazda CX-9 has starting price of $33,995 (MSRP) and offers lots of space for parents and children, while the V6 engine under the hood delivers a sufficient amount of power and driving pleasure for whoever is sitting behind the wheel.
